Discovering The Purpose of Your Life: – How to Find It and Live It to Achieve Your Dreams
We're always trying to figure out what our purpose in life is and why we are here. It's an interesting question, right? This makes us think about how we can live our lives with purpose. If we have a clear idea of what our purpose in life is, it becomes easier to live it and can help us live each day to the fullest.
Sometimes your instincts make you feel like you don't know what you're doing. You feel a push that you can do better, you are not maximining your capabilities. You can sense it and you can feel the pull, but you can't pin it down. It is about time you figured out what that feeling is and how to get rid of it.
I've done it myself many times, and I want to share my experience with you. But the most important part is how you interpret it and put it into practice.
You can change your life and make it better by using this concept: a step-by-step process, examining your experience, feelings and options. You’ll discover exactly what to do, when to do it and why it matters to take your life in a new direction and help give it meaning.
What do I mean by Discovery?
Literally, to discover is to find something new, unexpected, or unknown. For example, discovering a new star, a new species, a new planet, an asteroid, or a new chemical element is an unknown unexpected great finding or discovery.
There are many discoveries that have been made in the past, and continue to be made, but the discoveries that I want to discuss today are those that would change your life forever and change the way we view ourselves and our universe.
Each person is unique and has hidden treasures that are valuable to them including people around them. It is our duty to seek the truth in ourselves. Most often people use their lives reacting to situations, when they could have used same to figure out what drives them and the needs they are trying to fulfill.
To discover is to consciously spend time thinking or brainstorming about your own purpose. Most of the time, we don't do things consciously and we allow society to dictate to us what it believes is a “life”. This baked-in idea about life is that you go to school, get married and have kids, earn a certain amount of money, or achieve a certain position in society.
What is the purpose of life?
There is no need to be struggling to understand " The purpose of Life ", rather you should be asking yourselves, what is my purpose in life? What makes me or will make me have a true sense of fulfillment? What are the signs of a fulfilled life?
A fulfilled life is one that is full of happiness and satisfaction. It is important to note that the two terms are not mutually exclusive. A person who is happy can be happy for any number of reasons. There are times when a person may be unhappy for no apparent reason. However, the same cannot be said about someone who is truly satisfied.
Some people believe that their life is just a meaningless journey while others feel that there is more to it. The purpose of life can be defined as a life that is filled with happiness and satisfaction.
Your answer to the question "what is my purpose in life? " is your life's purpose. Your life's purpose is the reason for which you were born, the reason for which you are here on this planet, earth. The purpose of life is to live in such a way that you can be content with yourself and can be satisfied by what you have done. Nobody can tell you the purpose of your life, it is only you who knows it, and you must discover it for yourself.
Is it important to Discover your purpose?
Do you think it is important to find your purpose? Your purpose is something that you can pursue and achieve. Making you happier and more fulfilled is one of the many benefits of pursuing a purpose. But finding your purpose is hard because it requires you to think about yourself in a new way.
- It helps you find meaning to life, which is something most people can’t do.
- It gives you a sense of direction and to life.
- It will help you achieve more, become more productive and motivated.
- It gives you the chance to contribute to society and to make impact in the lives of others.
Living meaningfully, happier and fulfilled life will automatically improve your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
What to Consider before Discovering the purpose of your Life
It can be difficult to figure out what to do with our lives in an age where we are all rushing around, going nowhere and constantly persevering for more. To discover your purpose, you have to consider that:
- You are the most important person in your life, and it will take a lot of hard work and effort to get there.
- It is possible and achievable if you believe in yourself and have the courage to do it.
- You must accept that the journey might not be obvious because you are unique and different.
- It is important you acknowledge that your destiny depends on you.
- You must be honest with yourself if you want to face your fears.
These are the cardinal truths that need to be considered before deciding on your purpose in life. And there’s no shortcut to figuring out your purpose in life. It’s a lifelong journey.
The Steps to Discovering the purpose of your Life
There are three steps to the process of discovering the purpose of your life:
- Understanding the principles and power of choice
- Creating your “underlying principle”
- Aligning your life with this underlying principle
1. Understanding the principle and Power of Choices
Our choices are responsible for our destinations, as life is full of choices. Our choices are more powerful than we think. The current state of our life reflects choices made in the past and now by us, our parents, and our leaders. Often many of our problems and worries in life are the result of the choices we have made.
The power of choice is so important to understand because it allows us to create a better future for ourselves and our children discovering our true purpose. If you think you are not a happy and a satisfied person in life, you can choose to be happy by pushing yourself up with a change of mindset. You can overcome your fears if you choose to be courageous.
By making a choice, you are proclaiming your desires to your subconscious mind, and that's the most important activity of your mind. The subconscious mind will do anything to manifest your desires in your life once it gets to know you. The choices you make in life becomes your goal. There is no reason why you shouldn't accomplish them if you are sincere in pursuing them.
Not being able to decide what you want can create stress and anxiety, as well as confuse your subconscious mind about what you want. But it is important that the choices you make are made by you, in accordance with your true desires, purposes and aptitude. Choices are important. You should choose wisely. Make choices that are made by you, that suit your desires and your purposes, and that reflect your true talents and abilities.
We all do this – sometimes we allow someone else to make a choice for us, or we make our choices based on what we think is ‘right’, even if that means going against our wishes. What works for you may not work for others, and the only way to know this is by listening to what your heart says.
To begin with, make a list of things which interest you, things which you have always enjoyed, things which make you feel better, and things which inspire you to surge ahead, no matter what obstacles you face. Are you a fan of doing something artistic or creative? Do you enjoy spending time with nature? Do you enjoy being in water? Are you interested in helping others? Is it enjoyable to make a difference in other people's lives?
Whatever it is that interests you, write it down and answer these questions:
- What thing(s) do you love to do?
- What is it that you love in this thing(s) and why?
- How could you do this for money, and make a living out of it?
In discovering your purpose, you must be mindful of the fact that some choices are beyond your control which are those made for us by our parents, leaders, and God. There is little you can do about them, and your goal should be to align to the direction of the task at hand to be successful.
The good news is that your success or failure is not dictated by the power of choice beyond your control but rather the choice within your control. The source of the problems we may have lies principally in the choices we make ourselves or fail to make.
Understanding this principle and power is your hallmark to identifying and pursuing your life purpose. It is of essence to know how to choose, when to choose and what to choose.
2. Creating Your Underlying Principle
The next step is to look at your list and determine if there is any recurring or habitual theme. Is there anything in your list that you see again and again? It's important to look into whatever keeps coming up and hitting you hard. If you want to seek or give love or help the poor, you have to identify the central theme of the things you love and write it down in a simple, precise statement. This is what your project declaration will be. This declaration could evolve over time, but its soul will continue to be the same.
Once you have written down your project declaration which is your "Mission Statement", start developing it into a more specific principle. For example, your project declaration or mission statement could be something like “I want to make my world a better place”. Then, you could develop this into a more specific principle such as “I want to make my world a better place by being a good friend, neighbor, colleague and citizen”.
Your project declaration or mission statement is your overarching principle. Your principles are the foundation of your life. It is not enough to just want to make your world a better place. You have to develop a strategy for how to make it happen. This will require that you determine what it is that you will actually do to help your world become a better place. If you want to make your world a better place by becoming a better person, you need to think about what that means. Do you want to become a better person by learning to love and respect yourself and others?
This is where the project comes together. You are creating your project declaration in terms of what you want to do and how you want to accomplish it. For example, let's say you want to go back to school and become a doctor. That could be your underlying principle or mission statement. If you want to help people and make them happy, then that could be your underlying principle or mission statement. It's important to stay focused on your project declaration and how you want to accomplish it. If you stray away from that, you will lose focus.
3. Aligning Your LIFE With Your Underlying Principle
This final stage of the process is all about mapping your path to your ultimate purpose and implementing changes in your life to help you be more aligned with your true calling.
You should put it into practice. Get started by working on improving yourself. As you become more aware of the power of this principle, and by practicing this new lifestyle, you'll be able to begin to live it out each day.
Continuing with your Principle if your underlying principle is ‘love’, then try to do something for someone else every day. Once you have done that, try to live up to your principle in the way you conduct yourself.
It might take a while to become aware of this, however by being aware and intentional of this underlying precept of your existence, you will in reality feel the difference in your enthusiasm for life altogether.
This stage can be summed up by asking yourself, “What would I do if I knew I couldn't fail?” If your underlying principle is ‘money’, then work on getting more money in your life. If your underlying principle is ‘family’, then focus on developing a strong family life. If your underlying principle is ‘health’, then work on improving your health, physically, mentally, and emotionally. If your underlying principle is ‘spirituality’, then work on finding the meaning of your existence.
Conclusion
Alright, there you have it! You will be on your way to finding and living out your purpose if you follow along with the steps outlined above. In this life, you must analyze what you want, intentionally pursue it, and choose what you want in life.
As you go through this process, just keep in mind that anytime you think about what you want, make sure you are doing so with an open mind, for you can achieve and live your purpose when you “choose to choose”.
